Taking It To The Streets

It’s the second year of Art Adds!

Show Media, which owns about half of the advertising “cones” on top of New York taxis, is taking a $100,000 loss in revenue to give back to the city with public art. The project is done in collaboration with Art Production Fund, a non-profit organization in NY that helps artists with projects they may not be able to realize on their own. Through January, 500 taxis will display art instead of advertisements.

Last year the artists were Yoko Ono:

This year, the artwork is by Chuck Close:

John Amato, president of Show Media, explains, “Art is a great passion of mine, and I am very fortunate to be in a place in my life where I can do this as my annual holiday gift not just to myself, but to everyone who enjoys seeing the art as it travels around New York City’s streets.”

Yes! Thanks! FAS knows there’s no better gift to give the city than public art.
