BMW Guggenheim Lab

“Part urban think tank, part community center and public gathering space, the BMW Guggenheim Lab is conceived to engage public discourse in cities around the world and through the BMW Guggenheim Lab website and online social communities.”

What Is the Lab? | BMW Guggenheim Lab.

This lab has popped up in 33 East First Street (between First and Second Avenues), previously occupied by an empty lot full of trash.  It’s FREE, it’s travelling the world, and we got it first!

The concept of the museum is being reworked. It’s moving in an interactive, community-involved direction with things like this and this. We like it.

Support the New Orleans Mural Project

Free Artist Lauryn Pepe, painter of beautiful murals such as this one:

is traveling to the Lower 9th Ward in September to design and paint a mural with the children of Dr. King Charter School. It will be a powerful addition of beauty to a largely rundown and forgotten area.

The artist says, “The objective is to showcase the power of public art and to raise awareness of the struggles the lower 9th ward still undergoes to rebuild since the devastation of Katrina almost six years ago”.

Please help support this incredible project! Click here to learn more or donate on Kickstarter.

Keyzz

Who knew getting keys copied could be such an adventure? If you have lock business to do, this is the place to go. The owner is reputed to be one of the best locksmiths the business, and it’s awesome:

Phil Mortillaro opened Grenwich Locksmith in the West Village in 1968. It is the smallest freestanding building in Manhattan. Now, he has an incredible studio on the same block, and he lives right across the street. Nice life.

He just built this facade a few years ago and is already getting a lot of attention for it. Check out the trailer for a documentary about him called Do Not Duplicate:

He’s also an expert at cracking safes. Sweeeeeeet.
